Dylan’s Zazen: Sit in any position you want. Set a timer (3 minutes is a good start). Once you start the timer, NO MOVING. Blinking and breathing are allowed, nothing else, no eye movement, nothing. If you find that you slowly slouched, that’s fine, but do not adjust. No moving until the timer goes off. Think whatever you like, but do not act. This is a simplified version of meditation, dissociating the thoughts from the body and thereby giving yourself a choice with each thought.

Neutral sitting. If (when) sitting in a chair, sit on the very edge. This should maintain a neutral hip position which will allow your spine to stay straight (or naturally curved). When you become fed up with this position but still have to sit (or are driving), put your hips as close as possible to the lower back of the chair. This allows you to use the back of the chair to support your lumbar spine the most and places it under the least amount of compressive force.
